Mardi Gras

The 2009-2010 Mardi Gras Charity Ball

“...We’re having fun most every night
When that old moon gets big and bright
It’s a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancin’ in the moonlight

(excerpt from Dancin’ in the Moonlight)

Nearly 500 guests at this year’s Mardi Gras charity ball enjoyed an elegant, fun-filled evening in the glow of the moon, under the twinkle of the stars. This year’s ball was held at the beautiful new Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center.

Dancin’ in the Moonlight” was the theme of the evening based on the song of the same name by King Harvest.  Glowing moons, twinkling stars, hundreds of candles and stunning floral centerpieces transformed the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center into a moonlit summer night.  Guests danced in the moonlight to the music of the band, Top Five, and deejay,Jonny O.  The evening included a silent auction which raised more than $16,000 for our community’s children.  This night to remember was made possible through the dedication and tireless devotion of our members.

Jayne Pearson, long-time Junior Board member and active community volunteer, served as Mardi Gras’ first ever Mistress of Ceremonies.  Jayne announced that Junior Board of Rock Island honored Jim Hass and Dr. Lisa Brothers Arbisser as our majestic King and Queen of the Mardi Gras.  These twooutstanding individuals contribute generously to many organizations throughout the Quad Cities.  The Mardi Gras court included:
