Mardi Gras
The 2007-2008 Mardi Gras
Charity Ball
“…the pigeons coo
and the big dogs bark
and the noises echo through the park... "
(Excerpt from Central Park Serenade)
An evening in
Central Park was enjoyed by more than 530 people at this year’s
Mardi Gras Ball, held at the i wireless Center on Saturday, February
2, 2008.
Countless hours and much dedication from our tireless volunteers
made this event a night to remember. This year’s theme
was “Central Park Serenade” based on the children’s
book of the same name by author Laura Godwin. Picnic areas,
flower stalls and a newspaper stand transformed the arena and entrance
of the iwireless Center. Park benches, painted by area high
schools, highlighted the decorations and were sold at the silent
auction, which raised more than $13,000 for local children.
Peter Fieweger, as Emcee for the evening, announced that
Junior Board of Rock Island honored Joe Fackel and Mary Lagerblade
as our majestic King and Queen of the Mardi Gras. These two
individuals contributed many many hours to various organizations
around the Quad Cities. The Mardi Gras Court included the following:
